I'm featuring the image of rice. What is missing is one serving of rice. If complete, the dish would show one cup of cooked rice, or, 4 servings. In this case the whole dish would be worth 33 cents and the missing serving of rice is worth 8 cents. I'm saying that since 8 cents could be used to save someones life, we have no right to use our pocket books in irresponsible ways.
I'm not eating from the waste-stream for attention, or because i can't afford it. I'm a grad student with a pocket full of student loans. I can afford to buy fresh and local if i chose to. The deal is, for me, that I have no right to spend 20 buck on a dinner meal, or 20 bucks for a week of groceries, or 20 bucks to starve myself on rice for two months. Not when I can easily live from the waste-stream. I am saving money, not that i spent much anyway. Urban foraging is nothing new to me. Now I've committed to eating only from food that will go to waste. I am saving money. Not so I can buy nice things though, but am saving money so I can invest it and share it with others who need it.
No real searching is being done for food. I'm just eating the surplus from rite-aid. I was happy when I picked up some Chipotle Chips at the end of the night.

I have shared the idea of your waste-stream diet with many people in the past two weeks and it has inspired me to spend less and make different choices in regards to food.
