Kelsi's work for the face of famine
Sustainability Fest at SRU campus was a hit. Over 50 people officially ate waste-stream food today. The Feast or Famine blog put together a poster for the fest. I helped by displaying some photos and posting some information about this food experiment. Also I brought some props for the rice diet demonstration.
The center focus of the display was to be Kelsi's painting. It was the face of famine. This face is important because it makes the injustice of the distribution of food real. That is the face of a child who may not live to see is 5th birthday this year. He is only one of 16,000. The demonstration portion of the display involved my rice diet. When for 21 days I ate one cup of rice a day. The result was that, as little as I was eating, there are people eating less, and we are letting it happen. So many great people stopped by and asked absolutely perfect questions.
I've posted a couple pics of people who ate from the waste stream. On the bench in front of the display I brought a bunch of the food i've recently gathered for people to snack on. I really hope that I wasn't promoting these junk foods, they are precisely the foods I'm fighting against.
A random waste-stream delivery happened at the Fest. One of the Local volunteers were going to toss out some fries and nuggets from F-mcdonalds. I reluctantly accepted it and missed a good opportunity to encourage the owner to practice conservation.
