While running some errands today, I picked up a conversation with a fellow from out-of-town moving into the area. It was at the service desk at the Giant-Eagle. A man dropped some candy, and gave it to the worker helping me. “ince they were on the ground” he said. That was my cue! I can eat those, I quickly confused the three party members, making a scene. Rather than shut up, it was a moment to share some good old fashioned Global Awareness. The out of towner, who revealed himself as a head-doctor who could probably help me, thought I meant that I was ‘on a diet’ as in trying to lose weight. We cleared that up. On the way out, I spoke to him again. He briefly shared his past participation in a hunger protest and describes a movement of restaurants that are concerned about serving size issues.
