nTook the opportunity today to show my blog link to a class of about 150 students. Wrote the address on a dry erase board and popped the lights on near the end of class to give them all time to see it. Below the address it says “I AM EATING YOUR TRASH.” I was carrying a brown sack bunch bag with me, and had considered parking my self in front of class and eating my latest score. The act would have been normal, except no food or drinks were allowed in the auditorium hall. I’m thinking of the situation, the student witnessing a typical action of someone consuming food, then as time passed the light come on and sees the note on the board, then later that day would see the detailed blog. But none of that happened, I just carried the bag, wrote on the board, turned on the lights and let Mother Nature take care of the rest.

This is a Friday, the library closes early. Also this is the Friday before spring break. I needed to do a quick but thorough sweep because there was very little student activity today. Instead, I got caught up with the magnetic student worker, it’s a curse. The student shared their efforts in pulling paper and plastic bottles out of the TRASH CAN and putting it into the RECYLING BIN. Great! We are both doing the same thing! Taking something that doesn’t belong, an putting it in its intended place (kinda). And asked a ton of Q’s, of my experience. Maybe we will see each other around the dumpsters someday. Bummer, I was only able to get the remains of a granola bar from the sweep.
I’ve really got a buzz about the kilowatt hours and a dell desktop computer. I looked up the carbon emission rate for coal fired electric generation. 2,240 lbs of CO2 per Megawatt electric….. borrrrinnnng……2.2 lb per kwh. Ok. Let me try a dell again, 60w = .06 kilowatts per hour , [ (.06 kwh) x (24 hours) = 1.44 kwh per day], [(1.44kwh) x (2.2 lb CO2) = 3.2 lbs CO2 per day],
So, One dell running idle for 24hrs uses 1.4 kilowatts and contributes to 3.2 lbs of carbon emissions. That is 95 lbs CO2 and 42 kwh for one month and one Dell. (How many dells at Slippery Rock University don’t get turned off….ever?)
LUNCH: Cord-Dog, Stuffed Pretzel, corn chips, ham/turkey wrap
DINNER: all from yesterday; Sheetz order, two cookies, bagel
