Holy Tomato

shown above is all I ate today, 2 1/2 energy bars, Sun Chips, Apple ... about 900 waste-stream calories.

Found 9 1/2 Energy bars (not expired)

Observed the Organic tomato section at The Giant Eagle. Why is it so hard for a consumer who want to support local business and healthy produce to make the right choices. Why, to buy an organic tomato, do I have to import it from Mexico. Buy in season - Go loco.

,,A young couple, BrooknMatt, gave me some feedback on the blog and inspired most of the information on this post. I am exposing myself, really putting myself out-there, for a cause. Is my cause, the purpose of this experiment, self-explanatory? Brook gave a better, short and to the point answer than I’ve been able to communicate; that we waste food when other people need it. In what ways am I making myself vulnerable? What are the risks? Health (I wouldn’t eat after me if I were you). Spirit, not every day is it easy carrying out my commitment. Each day more disturbed and disheartened about the meat I’m eating. Reputation, how do I put this experience on my resume? I would like to write a clear and thorough history of my diet sometime soon. Check out a past web log for now. I like buying in bulk, but now I have a concern about industrial agriculture. Look for local goods, they exist, even flower, ask around. I got off of caned goods and started experimenting with dry goods; beans, lentils, barley. Got moving with some quick breads like cornbread, then found out that flower and water cooks tortillas/chips.

For me, even cooking rice was not a simple task until I tried and failed repeatedly. I just couldn’t understand the directions. So here is your crash course: Pot with lid, 1 cup rice, 2 cup water.
1.Bring water and rice to a boil. Set to simmer and cover.
2.After time (as directed by distributor, 15 min for cheap rice and up to 50 min for better quality grains) remove from heat, fluff the rice.
3.Keep covered for a bit longer (5 min).
4.Throw away perfectly good food.
